Connecting Research to Practice

With a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and 12 years as a tenured professor at the University of North Texas, I combine academic rigor with practical expertise to drive meaningful change. My work centers on media literacy, youth advocacy, digital equity, and program development, with a strong focus on program evaluation and outcomes. I’m skilled at identifying opportunities for collaboration—connecting organizations, schools, and community partners to tap into networked resources and amplify collective impact.

A few years ago I took a leap of faith and resigned from academia, sold my house and spent nearly two years traveling the world before deciding to settle in Fort Collins, Colorado. That journey broadened my perspective on equity, education, and community-building, and it ultimately inspired me to launch my consulting practice—creating new ways to partner with organizations that are expanding opportunities for young people.

When I’m not working, I spend my time in a dark room on a bike going nowhere, fanatically watching college sports (Boomer Sooner!), hiking and cycling beautiful trails, traveling the globe with my favorite people, or juggling far too many books while pretending I know how to cook better than I actually do.

I’m the author of 3 books, including Worried About the Wrong Things (MIT Press), and other publications examining youth, gender, equity, and opportunity.
